Amp Multi is intended for projects that need more coverage than a group of single-zone amplifiers can provide efficiently. Its eight outputs can be assigned across as many as four zones and configured for stereo or mono. That flexibility suits open plans, adjoining spaces and larger Chicago-area homes that do not follow a simple two-speaker pattern.
The product is built for professional racks. It uses a fanless, thermally optimized chassis, supports a dedicated 2U mount, provides front and rear status lights, and connects by Ethernet or WiFi 6. A clean installation still requires calculated speaker loads, suitable cable, managed networking, ventilation, labeling and accessible terminations.
Davis Audio & Video maps zones to listening habits, chooses speakers for coverage, plans source and subwoofer routing, and defines how Sonos should interact with the home. The goal is consistent sound and simple use in a system that remains understandable when expanded or serviced.
Where Sonos Amp Multi is the right fit
Amp Multi is most compelling when a project needs several coordinated passive-speaker zones, centralized equipment and more tuning control than a basic distributed-audio layout provides.
Open-plan and mixed-use spaces
Assign outputs around the finished floor plan, then use mono or stereo where the speaker layout and listening area call for it.
High-speaker-count Sonos systems
Sonos states that each output can support up to three Sonos Architectural speakers, allowing as many as 24 in its specified configuration. That limit does not transfer to unrelated models.
Centralized, serviceable racks
Use the dedicated 2U mount, recessed connections and fanless cooling to keep a dense audio rack organized without fan noise.
Rooms that need individual tuning
Apply ProTune controls per channel when asymmetrical placement, different speaker types or room geometry require more precise level, delay and equalization work.

Professional design
Why Amp Multi still needs a complete system design
Eight outputs do not eliminate speaker-load engineering. The published 2.67-ohm minimum applies specifically with Sonos Architectural speakers. Third-party speakers require their own impedance, sensitivity, power-handling and wiring review. Davis Audio & Video calculates the actual load instead of treating the maximum count as universal.
Amp Multi has a stereo analog input on two RCA connectors that feeds one zone, plus a USB-C analog input assignable to any zone with the separate Sonos Line-In Adapter. Sonos also lists one RCA subwoofer output for one zone and one Sonos Sub per zone. Those choices should be mapped before installation.
Amp Multi is a distributed-audio component, not a replacement for every Sonos product. Its published connections do not include HDMI ARC. A television room may be better served by Sonos Amp, Arc Ultra or another home-theater design.

- Sonos currently lists partner shipping beginning August 25, 2026. Allocation and timing should be confirmed before an installation date is promised.
- Start with which areas need independent source and volume control, then assign speakers and channels. Rooms that always play together may not need separate zones.
- Use the actual model, quantity, wiring topology and cable length. Sonos's high-count configuration applies only to its Architectural speakers under published requirements.
- Amp Multi has no published HDMI ARC input. Plan Sonos Amp, Arc Ultra or a dedicated theater system where television audio is a primary requirement.
