Full-spectrum Ketra light for decorative, recessed and track fixtures

Lutron Ketra Lamps and Track Lighting in Chicago

Ketra A20, S30 and S38 lamps extend the same full-spectrum light platform into decorative fixtures, recessed housings and track applications. Davis Audio & Video verifies the lamp, base, beam, enclosure, track hardware and HomeWorks infrastructure so a familiar screw-in form factor performs as part of a professionally designed lighting system.

Integrator guidance

Ketra Lamps and Track Lighting in a complete system designed by Davis Audio & Video.

Track lighting and architectural accents shown in a colorful Ketra lighting scene

A20 is the A-series shape for compatible pendants, sconces and table lamps. S30 is a PAR30 source for track and many five-inch recessed fixtures; S38 is the larger PAR38 source for compatible track and six-inch fixtures. All offer E26 or GU24 bases, but fit, enclosure and thermal conditions still require verification.

S30 and S38 Track Luminaires place those lamps in adjustable housings. Lutron lists H-Type track or 1/2-inch NPT canopy mounting, 90-degree tilt, nearly full rotation and optional snoots or baffles for cutoff.

These are not stand-alone smart bulbs. They require continuous 120-volt power, must not use a conventional line-voltage dimmer and communicate through Clear Connect Type X. Davis Audio & Video integrates them with HomeWorks QSX and clear keypad scenes.

Where Ketra lamps and track lighting are the right fit

Ketra lamps are useful where the fixture itself should remain visible or serviceable while its light joins the same scenes and color system as architectural Ketra products.

Decorative pendants and sconces

A20 can bring Ketra control to compatible decorative fixtures without replacing the fixture with a proprietary recessed assembly. Socket, shade material, enclosure, lamp visibility and physical dimensions are checked before specification.

Focused PAR lighting

S30 and S38 provide directional beams for compatible recessed and track fixtures. Davis Audio & Video selects PAR size and beam angle around aperture, throw distance, target size and desired edge softness.

Art and collection lighting

Track luminaires can be aimed as art, furniture or displays change. Snoots and baffles can improve cutoff, while Ketra scenes let the same installation support general viewing, detailed appreciation and evening ambiance.

Layered rooms with mixed fixture types

A20, PAR lamps, downlights and Ketra linear products can share scenes, combining decorative glow, accent light and architectural illumination.

What a properly designed Ketra lamp system does better

Selects the right form factor

A20, PAR30 and PAR38 are matched to the fixture rather than treated as brightness tiers. Shape, base, beam, output and enclosure determine the correct product.

Provides broad, coordinated light control

Current lamps publish white light from 1,400K to 10,000K, saturated color and 0.1% dimming. Davis Audio & Video uses those ranges to build deliberate scenes rather than leaving every parameter exposed.

Supports precise accent lighting

S30 offers beam choices from spot through extra-wide flood, while S38 covers spot through very-wide flood. Track accessories and aiming refine where the light begins, ends and causes glare.

Keeps sources field-serviceable

The lamps fit compatible E26 or GU24 sockets, and S30/S38 track housings use replaceable lamps. Service access and replacement models are documented.

Professional design

Why professional Ketra lamp and track design matters

A screw base does not guarantee suitability. Davis Audio & Video checks dimensions, base, socket, enclosure, environment and clearance. A20 is about 2.52 inches in diameter, S30 about 3.7 inches and S38 about 4.8 inches; each still needs the correct thermal and optical fit.

Current instructions require 120 V at 60 Hz and prohibit direct control by an AC line-voltage dimmer. Type X products need continuous power for reliable mesh operation, so existing dimmers and switches are reviewed.

Selected A20, S30 and S38 lamp SKUs may be allowed only in residential enclosed or covered-patio applications. Current S30 and S38 track luminaires are indoor damp-location products and are not for outdoor use. Davis Audio & Video verifies the exact SKU, enclosure, exposure and operating temperature.

How Ketra lamps fit into a Davis Audio & Video system

With HomeWorks QSX

Residential Ketra uses HomeWorks QSX and Type X; Lutron's current comparison does not list Ketra under RadioRA 3.

With Ketra downlights and linear lighting

Decorative, accent and architectural layers can share scenes while retaining the optic and output appropriate to each task.

With Lutron shades

Compatible shades can manage glare and privacy in the same scene while daylight and electric light remain independently adjustable.

With room activities

A supported automation system can call approved HomeWorks scenes while Lutron retains detailed lamp and keypad control.

Planning notes

Ketra lamp and track project planning

  • Socket type, dimensions, enclosure, shade clearance, voltage, condition and environment are documented before lamps are ordered.
  • Existing dimmers and switched feeds are evaluated so Ketra receives continuous, undimmed line power while HomeWorks provides digital control.
  • PAR size and beam angle are selected from mounting distance, target dimensions, desired overlap and glare exposure, not from wattage alone.
  • Track placement, head spacing, rotation, tilt and accessory depth are checked against ceilings, walls, art and furniture.

FAQs

Product questions

What is the difference between Ketra A20, S30 and S38 lamps?

A20 serves compatible decorative fixtures. S30 is PAR30 for compatible track and many five-inch recessed fixtures. S38 is PAR38 for compatible track and six-inch fixtures.

Do Ketra lamps use standard bases?

Current pages list E26 and GU24. A matching base does not ensure fit; dimensions, enclosure, socket orientation and thermal conditions also matter.

How bright are Ketra lamps?

Current A20 models list 648 or 853 lumens; S30 and S38 list 1,100 lumens. Surface illumination also depends on beam, distance and aiming.

Can Ketra lamps use a conventional wall dimmer?

No. Lutron prohibits direct control by an AC line-voltage dimmer. A20, S30 and S38 require continuous power and compatible digital control.

Can Ketra lamps work without HomeWorks?

They are not stand-alone smart bulbs. Current residential Ketra installations use HomeWorks QSX and Clear Connect Type X.

Can Ketra lamps be used outdoors?

Selected A20, S30 and S38 lamp SKUs may be permitted only in residential enclosed or covered-patio applications. Current S30 and S38 track luminaires are indoor damp-location products and are not for outdoor use. Davis Audio & Video verifies the exact SKU, enclosure and exposure.

What track works with Ketra S30 and S38 luminaires?

Current pages list H-Type track and a 1/2-inch NPT canopy option. Track, voltage, feed and mechanical fit must be confirmed.

Can Ketra track lights be aimed at artwork?

Yes. Current track heads provide 90-degree tilt and nearly full rotation, with optional snoots and baffles. Beam, distance, glare and the sensitivity of the displayed material should be considered together.

Do Ketra lamps support colored light as well as white light?

Yes. Current product pages publish white light from 1,400K to 10,000K plus 16.7 million saturated and pastel colors. Davis Audio & Video typically prioritizes useful white-light and scene behavior before specialty color effects.
