RadioRA 3 sits between Caseta and HomeWorks. It supports professional PC programming, higher device capacity, integrations, window treatments and varied controls. Its wireless architecture is useful when finished walls should remain intact or a project will grow in planned phases.

Wireless does not mean design-free. The processor requires Ethernet and standards-compliant Power over Ethernet, while Clear Connect Type X and Type A devices follow different distance and repeater rules. Existing neutral conductors, LED compatibility, multi-location wiring, fixture loads, wallbox depth and RF obstructions must be verified before hardware is assigned.

Professional design

Why RF and load planning determine reliability

RadioRA 3 uses both Clear Connect Type X and Type A, and the rules are not interchangeable. Type X devices form a mesh but must remain within 75 feet of their assigned processor and within 25 feet of two compatible Type X devices. Type A devices use processors and repeaters with separate 30-foot and 60-foot limits. A Type A repeater does not extend Type X coverage. Davis Audio & Video plots both networks before final device placement.

Every controlled circuit also needs an electrical match. Sunnata RF controls may require a neutral, and LED performance depends on the fixture, driver, lamp, load size and selected dimmer. Davis Audio & Video documents each load, checks current Lutron compatibility guidance, confirms multi-location wiring and tests low-end and high-end performance rather than assuming every existing switch can be replaced with the same model.

What is Lutron RadioRA 3?

RadioRA 3 is a professionally installed and programmed Lutron system for wireless lighting, compatible shades, scenes, schedules, app control and supported integrations. It uses Clear Connect RF for system devices and a wired Ethernet processor for programming, app and integration services.

How is RadioRA 3 different from Caseta?

RadioRA 3 offers professional PC programming, substantially greater system capacity, Sunnata RF keypads, broader device selection and more advanced professional integrations. Caseta is a smaller app-configured platform intended for simpler projects.

How is RadioRA 3 different from HomeWorks?

RadioRA 3 is optimized for professional wireless installations and retrofits. HomeWorks supports much larger systems, wired QS links, centralized panels, additional luxury keypads and Lutron's broadest native lighting and shade options.

Does RadioRA 3 use the home's Wi-Fi?

Dimmers, keypads and compatible shades communicate with Lutron Clear Connect RF rather than Wi-Fi. The RadioRA 3 processor still requires a wired Ethernet and PoE connection to the home network for setup, app services, updates and integrations.

Will RadioRA 3 work if the internet goes down?

Lutron states that local device operation continues during an internet outage. Cloud-dependent remote access, voice services and some integrations may be unavailable until service returns. The local network and PoE equipment must remain powered.

Can RadioRA 3 reuse RadioRA 2 devices?

Many current Type A devices are compatible and Lutron provides a database-conversion workflow, but exclusions apply. Davis Audio & Video audits installed models and preserves the original project before committing to reuse.

Do Sunnata RF controls require a neutral wire?

The current Sunnata RF PRO LED+ dimmer and several other Sunnata RF controls require a neutral. Compatible Maestro RF options may fit some no-neutral conditions. Each load and wallbox must be checked before model selection.

Can RadioRA 3 integrate with Control4 and Sonos?

Lutron currently lists Control4, Sonos and numerous other professional, voice, audio, climate and security integrations. Davis Audio & Video verifies current driver or account requirements and tests the specific commands included in the project.
