High-resolution network audio streaming
The VSSL MS.1 is a compact one-zone network audio streamer for systems that already have amplification. It brings app-native streaming, HDMI eARC, Bluetooth LE Audio and a choice of analog or digital outputs to an amplifier, receiver or powered-audio system without requiring a second amplifier stage.
Integrator guidance
Many homes already contain an amplifier or powered speaker system worth keeping. The missing layer is often modern streaming and simple television connectivity. MS.1 separates those roles cleanly: it handles network playback and source conversion, while the downstream component continues to provide amplification.
That makes MS.1 useful in a retrofit rack, a dedicated two-channel system, a family room with an existing amplifier or a commercial-style background-audio zone. Davis Audio & Video selects the output and control method around the equipment already in place rather than replacing working components merely to add streaming.
The small chassis also creates flexible placement options. VSSL includes a wall bracket, lists Power over Ethernet support and recommends Ethernet when practical. Placement still needs ventilation, cable clearance and service access, especially when HDMI eARC, digital audio, trigger control and network wiring meet behind furniture or inside a cabinet.

Analog RCA supports a conventional line-level connection, while optical and digital coax can feed a compatible downstream converter or amplifier. Output selection should follow the capabilities and gain structure of the complete system.
HDMI eARC allows the streamer to receive compatible television audio. Infrared learning and the 12-volt trigger can support a more coordinated power and control experience with compatible equipment.
A wired Ethernet connection is recommended in VSSL’s quick-start guide, Wi-Fi remains available, and supported PoE can reduce local power requirements. The final method depends on switch capability, cable route and service access.
Professional design
The most important MS.1 decision is the signal path. An analog output uses the MS.1 conversion stage, while optical or coax moves digital audio to a downstream component. Davis Audio & Video confirms which device should perform conversion, establishes a safe volume strategy and tests wake, mute and standby behavior so there is no unexpected jump in level.
HDMI eARC is an end-to-end feature. The television port, source format, cable, MS.1 settings and downstream audio system must agree. We verify television output settings, remote-volume behavior, lip sync and the fallback experience after power or network interruptions rather than assuming that an eARC label guarantees one result.
Streaming performance depends on the network as much as the streamer. We evaluate Ethernet first, confirm multicast and discovery behavior, update firmware through VSSL CNCT and test the protocols the household actually plans to use. When Wi-Fi is appropriate, coverage and interference are measured at the final equipment location.
How MS.1 fits into a Davis Audio & Video system
MS.1 becomes the network source while the existing component continues to drive speakers. The selected analog or digital connection is documented and level-tested.
HDMI eARC, infrared learning and trigger behavior can be coordinated around the room’s everyday TV experience, subject to the capabilities of each connected device.
Current manufacturer-listed drivers can expose supported functions inside the broader control environment. Music discovery may remain in the native service app while room power and volume stay on the primary remote.
Ethernet or Wi-Fi, IP addressing, switch features, discovery protocols and account setup are treated as system infrastructure, not as post-installation troubleshooting.
