Primary front door
Provide visitor video and communication on touchscreens and supported mobile devices, with clearly defined access commands.
Chime visitor communication and smart entry events
Control4 Chime is a video doorbell built to participate in the Control4 smart home. It combines a wide visitor view, two-way communication, motion zones, snapshots, low-light operation, and whole-home integration so a door event can appear on the interfaces and devices the family already uses.
Integrator guidance
A stand-alone doorbell can notify a phone. Chime can also present the visitor on Control4 touchscreens, coordinate compatible locks or garage access, raise porch lights, trigger recordings, and make the event part of a whole-home communication system. The value comes from those connected workflows, not from adding another app to the homeowner’s phone.
Chime provides a 180-degree field of view, night mode, high-definition video, natural two-way audio, black or nickel finish options, and five adjustable motion zones. Snapshots can be delivered when the button is pressed or selected motion events occur. Control4 Connect can enable Intercom Anywhere and seven days of snapshot/video cloud storage. Luma Insights can add supported person, package, and vehicle classifications.
Davis Audio & Video designs the installation around the entry. The camera must see faces and the package zone without pointing mainly at sky or a wall. Existing doorbell wiring is inspected rather than assumed usable. Wi-Fi or network quality, transformer/power requirements, chime behavior, masonry, trim, weather exposure, notifications, permissions, and the lock or garage workflow are all commissioned.
Chime use cases
Provide visitor video and communication on touchscreens and supported mobile devices, with clearly defined access commands.
Use a camera angle and motion zone that covers the delivery area and configure intelligent events where supported.
Raise selected entry lighting or show the video on touchscreens when a meaningful event occurs after a defined time.
Make the door part of the same touchscreen and mobile communication system used room to room.
Add an integrated doorbell where a full DS3 door station is not required and the power, network, mounting, and architecture support Chime.
Control4 Chime capabilities
A 180-degree field of view can capture more of the porch and package area when mounting geometry is correct.
Speak with visitors from compatible Control4 touchscreens and supported mobile experiences.
Tune activity areas so the system can focus on the walkway, porch, or package zone and reduce irrelevant traffic.
Use events to display video, raise lights, record, notify, or present approved lock and garage commands.
Applicable Connect and Luma Insights services can add seven-day history and supported object classifications.
Professional design
Mounting height, door swing, side wall, porch depth, steps, backlight, sun, and the likely standing position determine the useful view.
Transformer capacity, wiring condition, voltage drop, chime circuit, Wi-Fi signal, network congestion, and exterior material are checked before installation.
Unlock, disarm, or garage commands are provided only where the hardware, permissions, security policy, and household workflow make them appropriate.
Motion zones, schedules, intelligent classifications, quiet hours, and recipients are configured so notifications remain useful.
A doorbell camera may not provide the continuous recording, nighttime range, driveway view, or evidence angle required for surveillance.
What happens when someone approaches the door
Display the event on a shared, always-available screen so the resident does not have to find a phone.
Raise porch or pathway lighting at night for a meaningful person event, while avoiding constant activation from street traffic.
After verifying the visitor, present approved access commands and automatically restore the secure state when the workflow supports it.
Use a separate overview camera and NVR for wider, continuous, or higher-evidence recording while Chime handles communication.

Davis Audio & Video process
Davis Audio & Video starts with the room, the household, and the result the client expects—not with a product list. We document existing equipment, construction conditions, wiring access, network health, aesthetic priorities, security requirements, and the controls people already understand.
We select the correct Control4 or Lutron architecture, verify electrical and low-voltage requirements, coordinate with architects, designers, builders, electricians, HVAC professionals, and window-treatment workrooms, and produce a system plan that can be installed and serviced without guesswork.
Devices are mounted, wired, labeled, updated, and programmed as one operating system. Scenes, schedules, room-off behavior, notifications, user permissions, and remote interfaces are tested from the controls the family will actually use.
We verify normal operation, failure recovery, network communication, audio or video performance, and safety-related behavior. The homeowner receives a clear walkthrough focused on everyday actions. Davis Audio & Video considers the project unfinished if the system is powerful but difficult to operate.
The final configuration is documented so future service, additions, or renovations can be completed efficiently. Davis Audio & Video can support software updates, programming changes, seasonal adjustments, and expansion as the home evolves.
FAQs
Chime is Control4’s integrated video doorbell, designed for visitor video, two-way audio, motion events, touchscreens, app communication, and Control4 automation.
Control4 lists a 180-degree field of view. The useful image still depends on mounting height, angle, porch geometry, and obstructions.
Control4 states that Chime includes five adjustable motion zones.
Supported Luma Insights services can add classifications such as person, package, and vehicle when the installed Chime, Control4 system, account, firmware, internet, and subscription are eligible.
Yes. Touchscreen communication is a central Chime feature, and compatible mobile access is available through the configured Control4 services.
It can present control of a compatible integrated lock after the resident verifies the visitor. Permissions, access hardware, security policy, and safe workflow must be designed correctly.
An applicable Control4 Connect service can provide seven days of snapshots and video recordings from Chime. Local or longer-term surveillance recording is a separate design.
Possibly. Davis Audio & Video measures voltage, checks transformer capacity and wire condition, confirms current hardware requirements, and evaluates the existing chime circuit.
Control4 lists black and nickel finishes for Chime. Current availability is verified when the system is quoted.
Chime is a video doorbell. DS3 is a premium door station designed for integrated entry or gate applications, with different mounting, finish, intercom, and access-code capabilities.
